It's almost time for leeches

  • Aug. 20th, 2008 at 2:33 AM
This plague is horrible. I spend my time half-asleep, wheezing and trying not to cough. I've been trying to drink as much water as possible which also means that I'm constantly staggering to the bathroom. This is certainly the worst cold I've had in years. I guess that's not surprising since if there's one thing you find yourself avoiding as a shutin is communicable diseases. Maybe it's just been so long since my immune system has seen a virus that it just opened the door wide and invited it in for tea.

Well, thanks a lot, John. I seem to have caught your damn gamer plague after all. It simply took it a couple extra days to conquer my system. Now I'm sporting the full blown sore throat and rasping cough. Just wonderful.

On the plus side, I have managed to catch up on my sleep. I dozed off for around 15 hours after getting home yesterday. Woke up to stuff my face, take a shower, and then fell asleep again for another 5. I think I'm pretty full as far as sleep goes and I'll have to start thinking about actually unpacking some of the stuff I hauled back from the con. There are a crapload of things I'll need to take care of, including uploading all the pictures and video. I'm still feeling sort of dazed and the trip seems sort of surreal at the moment. I have no doubt the plague is contributing to that in no small significant way. I'm usually pretty good at avoiding illness and so I'm left thinking this must be some sort of gamer superbug, formed from the diseased and putrid hosts of tens of thousands of gamer bodies. I'd probably be better off licking an anthrax lollipop.

I hadn't expected this entry to turn into a full out illness whine, but since it's speeding in that direction I should also mention that my feet hurt like crazy too. It looks like all that walking finally caught up to me in the last couple of days at gencon. At this point, I'm sort of limping my way everywhere, though since both feet are pretty sore and blistered, it's one of those two-legged limps that just looks like a gimpy shuffle-step.

I'm going to try to get a few more hours of sleep tonight and hopefully that will put me back onto some sort of normal schedule.

Shalom Y'all

Geeky Girl Seeks Voyeuristic Exchange

  • Aug. 18th, 2008 at 3:56 PM

About Me:
I joined LJ almost five years ago, about a week after I announced to my husband that I wanted a divorce.  I then threw a dart at a map and packed up my Corolla with all my posessions and moved sight unseen to Denver, Colorado to start over again and find out who "me" was.

After 2 years out there, I've moved back to the South - a wiser and happier person.   I'm still blonde to the brain, I have a love of shoes, and I am a self-confessed geek and nerd.  I read LJ daily, I post usually 3-4 times a week if not every day.  I am currently dating Dewey D, my librarian in shiny . . . .ooh shiny!

I moved from Greenville, SC to Charlotte, NC to be closer to him and start the next chapter of my on-going saga.  My roommate travels a lot, so I house/plant/cat sit while starting my new life up here.  I've lived up and down the East Coast and at last count have lived over 20 places.  I tend to be a bit of a gypsy and free spirit.

I currently work in radio, but may be changing careers as our station is up for sale. I'm an erstwhile writer, a WoW player, a Dragon*Con attender, and a bit of a kinky sexer.  My family are staunch Christian conservatives - I'm a more laissez faire kind of gal.  We don't party together, but I love them.

I'm a bit snarky about life, yet find it incredibly amusing too.  Life is a continuing adventure - and I'm here with hats, horns and streamers!

What I'm Looking For:
1.  I'm looking for people that actually post about their lives, loves, and interests on a semi-regular basis.
2.  I don't mind seeing a few meme's now and then - but if all you do is post and tag, count me out.
3.  I don't usually do "lj cuts" but I will occasionally drop someone if we don't seem to have a connection.  And I don't mind if you do the same to me.   Usually I wait several months before dropping anyone because we all have our whiny phases, don't we?
4.  A lot of my friends cross-post and cross-add friends - so if I think you are cool I'll recommend you to my friends too.  Several of us have met up for drinks, etc - so the more the merrier!
5.  I read LJ daily, but only comment when I feel I have something to add.  If you are looking for consistent commenters, I'm not your gal.

Looking for new friends

Greetings to all,

My name is Abby; I'm 27 years old and I'm currently working as a grad student in zoology at the University of Wyoming.

I'll start out with the serious:
-I'm a major geek, and am often very silly. You have been warned.
-I have a very dry, sarcastic sense of humor which shows up often in my posts.
-Only open-minded people need apply. I'm not shy about stating my views... but this means I do NOT by any chance expect everyone to agree with my views. Besides, how am I going to learn anything if I'm only friends with people who agree with me?
-I often get very busy with my thesis, and I can't spend as much time on here as l like. I do try to read almost every entry.
-I'm picky about who I add, and I am no fan of anyone who likes to engage in online drama. Please don't be offended if I don't pick you!

If you made it through all that, here are some more details about my interests:
-I love most everything fantasy, anime, graphic novel
- I absolutely adore talking about languages, literature and music.
-I'm a fiction writer, mostly in the genres of fantasy and horror. I love meeting other writers.
-Other random interests: tea, good food, nature, embroidery, baking, world events.
-I like making lists

Uh... guess that's it. I hope that wasn't all off-putting in the beginning, I just wanted to be straight-forward about what I'm looking for here. Looking forward to meeting you!

more NIN!!!!!

i've been around here a time or two and every couple months once i can keep up with who's who on my friends list i like to come back and meet new people.

i'm 26 but have always had the mindset of a 40 year old; i can't really relate to people my own age, never could. i live with my partner of four and a half years. she breeds aussies so i get to play with puppies all the time. i'm a veterinary technician and currently work as a virology/bacteriology analyst and can't wait to go back for my masters. i want a house and babies and right now it seems like eons until we can start our life and family, though our bakers dozen dogs and four cats keep me busy for now.

i devour books by the armful and like to write them as well. i'm an uber nerd and feel comfortable spending most of my nights at home in my pjs. i can dance and sing. okay i can't sing but that doesn't stop me from performing shows nightly. i love movies and music and theatre. i was a drama club dork. doris day is my girl.

i can't live without lip gloss, night blooming jasmine body spray, and caesar salad.

i'm quirky. i have to own all the books i read, there are dozens of food rules that must be followed, i am ocd and am turned on by organization, and oh so much more.

i am one sarcastic wench. i like gay jokes, big boob jokes, blind in one eye jokes and sexual harassment. i like to swear like a trucker and yet everyone sees me as pretty innocent, save for the whole lesbian thing.

i am extremely shy and don’t like people much out there in the real world, but in here, most everyone is alright. anyway, this is me.

hi everybody!

Hello all!  My name is Tara and I'm still pretty new to LJ so I thought, why not see if we can find some new friends?  So here I am. I am going to be 26 in about two weeks, which is a bit scary. I am currently searching for a teaching position in the north suburbs of Chicago. I graduated from St. Xavier University in Chicago w/a degree in Elementary Ed.  Iwould like to get to know some new people. I try to get on as often as I can.... sometimes I get really busy.  I try to comment but again, I do get busy, just like the rest of you I'm sure.  You can check out my profile, and add me as a friend if you'd like! I look forward to hearing from you!

The Friday Five

It's been awhile...but I'm a sucker for the music-themed ones.

1) What is your favorite song right now? Why?
“Tell Me A Lie” by The Fratellis...I guess just because I like the hook.

2) What genre of music makes you the happiest?
Britpop

3) What would you name your band and what kind of music would you play?
Can’t think of one, off the top of my head. I always randomly hear words and phrases that I think would make good band names, giggle about it for a second, and then forget about them. I never write them down or even think twice about them, because there’s no need for a bandname  in my immediate future.

4) What is your favorite lyric of all time? Why?
Strung out below a necklace of carnival lights
Cold moan, held on the crest of the night
I'm too tired to fight

      --- “Blind Curve” by Marillion

Why? No idea. I just think that it’s particularly poignant.

5) What band/artist could you never live without? Why?
Roxy Music. Why? Because they were freaking brilliant…even the over-the-top sappy stuff. Seriously, what other band could write a song about a blow-up doll without it coming off as completely cheesy?

Hello quarter-lifers and above! I've kept various LJs since 2000 but this is my first experience with any sort of "add me" community. Recently I cut my list of 200+ friends down to just 24 due to a lack of interaction. After all, no one much likes blogging to a brick wall. I'm looking forward to meeting and reading the journals of e-buddies from all walks of life.

The majority of my entries are locked, so here are some of the basics:

Name: Leah
Age: 26
Astrological Sign: Cancer
Occupation: Student, Research Assistant
Location: Lafayette, Indiana; USA
Favorite Movies: Velvet Goldmine, Elizabeth, The Last of the Mohicans, anything by Mr. Tim Burton, Titus
Favorite Music: Alternative, Indie, Folk, 70's/80's Punk, New Romantic. Specifically R.E.M., The Clash, The Smiths/Morrissey, Bloc Party, The Decemberists, Depeche Mode, Counting Crows, U2, Vienna Teng, Muse, Snow Patrol, David Bowie, Placebo, and many more.
Favorite Books: Hamlet, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Gormenghast Trilogy, Venus and Adonis, The Turn of the Screw, Annabel Lee
Favorite TV: The Tudors, any and all of Bravo's reality programming shenanigans.

Don't be alarmed if the first page of entries on my journal are sporadic and rather...uni-topic(ed.) I'm here in search of those who will read and interact and rekindle my love for blogging. All I ask is that you leave a comment either here or at my journal before or at the time you add me - I won't add anyone I haven't received a comment from.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to meeting some new and fascinating people. Take care!

Looking for actual potential friends

  • Aug. 11th, 2008 at 4:45 PM
I've never really had much luck with communities like this, and in the end I usually end up with one or two people that I end up clicking with, but perhaps that's enough. :)

I can be wordy )
And now that I've probably alienated everybody, I hope you all have a nice day. :)

Greetings!

I've been lurking for a while and today I thought to myself "What the Heck?! Just do it! It's not like they'll eat you alive." So, I took a deep breath and here I am to introduce... well, me!

I'm usually (and I mean it!) a nice and very friendly person even to those self absorbed people. I honestly enjoy everyone. And I'm always looking for the good side of all things and people.

I'm not nice, however, to those who are mean, unfair and liars. I forgive but do not forget. This is something I'm working on and trying to change, for I've realized it doesn't bring any good to me or anyone involved.

Speaking of things I'm changing, this perk of mine is constantly in mutation. When I like something, I tend to become obsessed with it. It's uncontrollable and quite scary sometimes. LOL. The latest obsessions are the recently found Harry Potter cannon and New Age Theory. But I have to be honest, compared to when I was into Buffy, Brangelina, Alias, Volleyball, my ex-boyfriend, World Union and Complete Peace, and whatnot (see the pattern? I know, there's none), my behavior is just of a regular 28 year old girlwoman (Gee! I truly am way over 25...)

And! I'll leave it at that, so not to scare any potential friends for my LJ is Friends Only. *winks*

If anything, it was nice meeting, y'all!

Hello everyone! I've had this LJ for a few years, but have exclusively used it just to read and post to various communities. To make a not-so-long but not-terribly-interesting story short, I've decided that I'd like to branch out a bit by sharing journals and making some LJ friends. In addition to the interests in my profile, here's a bit more about me:

*I'm 28 and have been in a long-term relationship with my boyfriend for four years.
*I work for a non-profit, but dream of opening my own pastry shop someday. I spend a lot of time baking, and get a lot of joy out of feeding people.
*I live outside of Boston, but am considering a change of location, and am more-than-casually considering moving a few time zones away.
*I love movies, and consider watching them and picking them apart one of my favorite hobbies. I'd be hard-pressed to pick a favorite genre, but I can't deny my love for horror and sci-fi.
*I freely admit to various TV addictions. Among my favorite shows are The Office, 30 Rock, Pushing Daisies, and Ugly Betty, but I gleefully eat up many of the Discovery Channel's, the History Channel's, PBS', and the Science Channel's offerings. On the other hand, I'm unashamed of my reality TV love (Big Brother, assorted garbage on VH1, etc), and am always game to snark on them.
*I love to read, and am typically in the middle of a few books. My tastes vary widely, but I have a special love for cultural and ethnological titles.
*I love music, and generally have something playing in the background regardless of whatever else I may be doing. I love post-punk, math rock, new wave, ebm, industrial, alt. country...the list goes on and on. I also love live music, and try to get to as many shows as I can.
*I adore animals, and am owned by three naughty little birds.
*I'm a vegetarian, an atheist, and very liberal. While I haven't journaled about these things, I can't say that content associated to these integral parts of me won't come up.

Since my LJ account generally existed for participation in various communities, the entries contained therein were pretty few and far-between. As an outlet, I plan on updating more frequently with more of the same --- Random things I find online or elsewhere that I find funny, rants and raves, etc. Let it be known that while I am a kind, supportive person, I can have a silly and snarky sense of humor sometimes. Fair warning! I'm looking to be able to comment on friends' entries and receive the occasional comment as well.

My LJ interests section does a fairly decent job of covering my likes, loves, and passions. If we have anything in common and you'd like to add me, please let me know, and I'd be happy to add you back!

Hi soon to be new friends

Fogo de Chao was spiffy as expected. The errand running afterwards was less successful though. I had jotted down the addresses of a few restaurant supply stores in the area and they all happened to be out of business. The only one that wasn't was closed for the day, having the daily operating hours of 5am to 2pm. So we just decided to give it up and give it another whirl tomorrow morning before I have to catch the flight to Indy. It's not a huge big deal and, if necessary, john and Melissa could deal with it on their own without me anyway. Upon coming back to John's place, we've been sitting around playing around online. I managed to rediscover the site for Making Fiends and we've been watching episodes. Twisted but funny. A great combination if you ask me. Turns out that it's actually going to be made into a cartoon for Nickolodean starting this fall. Spiffy.

Oh, and I guess I should also mention that the streak continues of people feeling the obligation to share their crazy with me. Some people are just wound way too tight it seems. You can't help but wonder if perhaps therapy shouldn't be mandatory.
